Wald und Kulturlandschaft

Trin lies at the entrance to the Surselva. The mountain village is located under a large protective forest, which also protects the road towards the nearby large tourist centers of Flims and Laax. Below Trin is the Rhine Gorge, often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of Switzerland". The Flims landslide formed this unique landscape 10,000 years ago. Over the millennia, the Rhine has carved its way through the rock barrier and today offers an impressive natural spectacle with unique flora and fauna.

Idee und Ziele

In Trin, project weeks for adults take place in winter - because the mountain forest does not hibernate: dormant vegetation, frozen ground and cool temperatures create ideal conditions for hedge maintenance, thinning and young forest care. Volunteers experience the forest from a new perspective and make a valuable contribution to protective functions and biodiversity.

Project partnerships: Based in Trin, the Bergwaldprojekt volunteers work throughout the region around the Rhine Gorge from Chur to Ilanz. Over 25 project weeks are implemented every year: in summer mainly with young people, in winter with adults.

The work is flexibly adapted to current needs as well as weather and terrain conditions and can vary. Project Trin focuses on forest edge and hedge maintenance, the construction of wildlife protection fences, targeted thinning and clearing. All work is carried out under the guidance of experienced project and group leaders.

The week starts on Sunday with an introduction to the Bergwaldprojekt and the week's schedule. The days start early: breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m. and then the work begins. One highlight is the weekly forestry excursion in the surrounding area. In addition to the forestry work, volunteers also take on simple household tasks in the accommodation, such as tidying up or washing up.
