Montreux VD

Volunteers maintain valuable protection forests and open daffodil meadows above the riverbanks of Montreux. With their work, they help to preserve a unique natural and cultural heritage that has shaped the region for centuries - and at the same time secure important habitats for numerous animal and plant species.

Forest and cultural landscape

Image
Blonay Landschaft

Montreux is located on the upper Lac Léman and stretches from the shores to the gently rising foothills of the Alps. While the lake dominates the townscape, the higher elevations are dominated by forests and open meadows. These protective forests protect settlements and traffic routes from floods and landslides, while the open slopes provide valuable habitats for species such as the black grouse. The white "Neige de Mai" - daffodil meadows between Les Avants and Les Pléiades, which once attracted tourists and are now highly endangered - are famous.

Idea and goals

The aim of the project is the sustainable maintenance of the protective forest and cultural landscape around Montreux. Together with the local forest and the Narcisses Riviera association, the Bergwaldprojekt is committed to keeping the daffodil meadows open and maintaining stable protection forests. This work promotes biodiversity and secures valuable habitats that are of great ecological and cultural importance for the region.

Project partnerships: The Bergwaldprojekt works together with the forestry department of the municipality of Montreux and the local daffodil association.

Narcisses Riviera

What you can expect

The work is flexibly adapted to current needs as well as weather and terrain conditions and can vary. The main tasks are forest edge and hedge maintenance, scrub clearance work on the daffodil meadows, clearing and the construction and maintenance of footpaths. All work is carried out under the guidance of experienced project and group leaders.

The week starts on Sunday with an introduction to the Bergwaldprojekt and the week's schedule. The days start early: breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m. and then the work begins. One highlight is the weekly forestry excursion in the surrounding area. In addition to forestry work, volunteers also take on simple household tasks in the accommodation, such as tidying up or washing up.
