Families Safiental GR
In the family project in Safiental, children and adults work together to preserve the protective forest and maintain the cultural landscape. In the remote mountain landscape, families experience how valuable joint commitment, knowledge of nature and sustainable action are for the future.
Forest and cultural landscape
The secluded Safiental valley stretches from the Rhine Gorge to the Safierberg and is characterized by steep protective forests and centuries-old agriculture and alpine farming. The hard life at over 1600 m above sea level used to lead to intensive use of natural resources - often to the limits of what was sustainable. Traces of this overuse are still visible in the forest and cultural landscape today.
Despite public support, forest and pasture areas can no longer be fully managed today. Often only the most urgent work is carried out. The Bergwaldprojekt helps where additional efforts are needed to preserve valuable open areas and promote the stability of protection forests.
Idea and goals
The family project combines nature-based work with shared experiences. The activities are designed in such a way that children and adults can work together - without pressure to perform, but with a clear common task. The group gets to know the mountain forest habitat, gains exciting insights into its importance and experiences directly how commitment and teamwork pay off. The experience of "moving trees" together will be remembered for a long time by young and old alike.
What you can expect
The work is flexibly adapted to current needs as well as weather and terrain conditions and can vary. The tasks are varied and suitable for children: simple forestry work is carried out, wildlife protection fences are built, trees are planted and felled. Playful elements and short inputs on the forest ecosystem liven up the day. Several short excursions complete the program. All work is carried out under the guidance of experienced project and group leaders.
